Artocarpus Heterophyllus Tree Description

Artocarpus Heterophyllus tree is a large, handsome tree that can reach 70 feet (21.34 m) in height. In cultivation, it can reach 70 feet in height (21.34 m). It has a straight trunk with an irregular to rounded dense crown. Also, its dark green, glossy, leathery leaves are oblong to elliptical in shape. The leaves are 4 to 6 inches long. Furthermore, the flowers are borne on the trunk (cauliflory).  These flower heads of male and female blooms measure  1 to 4 by 1 inches long. Jackfruit’s fruit is the largest borne on trees, up to 36 by 20 inches long and weighing up to 80 pounds. All parts of the tree contain a sticky latex.

The fruit’s exterior is green and warty, the interior contains an edible yellow pulp and large light brown edible (1 x 3/4 inches) seeds. Artocarpus Heterophyllus is a common home garden tree in the tropics and the fruits have wide use in Asian culture. Feel free to use the seeds for propagation. Jackfruit wood has numerous uses.
