Michelia Champaca Tree Description

Michelia Champaca tree (Orange Champaca) resembles the White Champaca. It grows 25 to 40 feet in height. Furthermore, it has an upright rounded to tapered crown. Also, the bark is gray or grayish-white and is smooth to light furrowed. Moreover, the bright green wavy-edge Michelia Champaca leaves are glossy, elliptical, evergreen, and up to 14 inches long.

Additionally, The aromatic star-shaped flowers are borne at the branches’ end. The flowers of the orange champaca tree are white to yellow-orange, narrow petaled, and about 2.5 inches long. The sweet-smelling oil of the flowers has a common use in the perfume industry.

Finally, the brown fruits are borne in clusters along an oblong stalk and contain scarlet or brown seeds; which have an aril that attracts birds. Also, it propagates through seeds or cuttings. Also, the dark wood is soft, even-grain, and has an olive color. The wood is good for furniture and construction. The leaves and fruits have medicinal uses.

Orange Champaca Tree Cultivation and Landscape Usage

In cultivation, Michelia Champaca (Orange Champaca) prefers moist, well-drained good quality soils. Bear in mind that because of soil porosity, trees may require supplementary watering, along with fertilizer application to provide the nutrients the soil cannot retain.

In landscaping, this showy flowering, fragrant evergreen is recommended for shaded gardens and as an accent tree in parks, courtyards, large planters, or conservatories.
