Dombeya x Seminole

Dombeya x Seminole tree description

Dombeya x seminole (Seminole) is a small tree or medium-sized shrub. Moreover, Seminole is the result of an artificial hybrid of two varieties of Dombeya burgessiae. The Hybrid was created by the subtropical horticulture research unit in Miami on April 1973.

Also, the Seminole tree can grow to a height of 5 feet or more. It has a dense rounded crown. Additionally, leaves of Dombeya are heart-shaped, alternate, and completely dark green. The leaves measures 9 by 6 1/2 inches with wrinkled edges and scattered star-like hairs.

Furthermore, the flowers of Dombeya are showy, pink to purple in color. They are borne in flower heads with blooms are about 1 1/2 inches wide. Information about the fruits is lacking. Yet, based upon the parent species, fruits are likely small, brown, hairy, ovoid capsules with small seeds.

Dombeya x Seminole cultivation

Importantly, since hybrids seeds do not breed true cuttings are used to propagate seminole. The plant responds best in moist well-drained soil. Dombeya x seminole (Seminole) is easily pruned to maintain shape as a single plant or hedge. This colorful landscape plant is appropriate for almost any garden or patio setting. Dombeya can be used as an accent tree or specimen plant. It is also an ideal container plant.
