Stemmadenia Litoralis Tree Description

Stemmadenia litoralis (Milkyway) is a very beautiful tropical tree species. It normally grows up to 10 feet in height and exhibits a canopy in layers. The bark which is grayish tan displays vertical fissures as the tree matures. Leaves are dark green oval leaves and measure up to 6 inches in length.

The plant’s common name derives from its white milky sap (Mikyway Tree). It bears flowers that have a trumpet shape corolla of 5 petals with a single style and stigma, all year. In full bloom, the fragrance permeates the garden with a musky vanilla perfume. The white flowers presents a striking contrast against the green glossy leaves. Additionally, the ground below is carpeted with fallen blossoms.

Furthermore, the small fruit pods are golden in color and about 4 inches long. Moreover, they and borne in pairs with a hook-like appearance. Stemmadenia litoralis generally propagates from seed or cuttings.
