The care of a tree depends on the species, its size, at what season of year we are living; the type of soil (dry, humid or sandy) and the surrounding environment. How to take care of a tree? Let’s find out!
How to Take Care of a Tree
When planting a new tree, proper watering is essential. Trees need more water during hot seasons, but too much water can be harmful. Overwatering can suffocate the roots, cause rot, and force roots to grow near the surface instead of deep into the soil.
A simple way to check moisture levels is to dig about 5 centimeters into the soil. If it feels moist but not soggy, your tree is receiving the right amount of water. Continue regular watering until the roots establish and the tree can sustain itself.
Fertilizing also plays an important role in tree care. If the soil lacks nutrients, you can enrich it using organic materials such as vegetable scraps, fruit waste, dry leaves, or grass clippings.
Once a year, or every two years, you can apply about 2 kilograms of tree fertilizer. Spread it evenly around the base of the tree and gently mix it into the soil, taking care not to damage surface roots.
